WHO I WORK WITH
I work with children, teens, adults and couples/partners who are navigating the many layers of being human. I enjoy supporting clients in transition times whether that's exploring identity, starting a new chapter of school or work, relationship changes, healing from trauma, coping with loss/grief, existential questioning or trying to shift your day to day to better align with your own desires and values (maybe even trying to discover what those are). Those tender transitions can be the best times to rediscover ourselves and how we want to shape our lives.
As a queer and trauma-informed therapist, I especially enjoy supporting LGBTQ+ clients, survivors of trauma, and anyone who feels weighed down by the external expectations, pressures, or “shoulds” that often get in the way of our growth, healing and liberation. With that breaking down comes the fun and challenging part of self-discovery, curiosity and imagination - to explore your values, needs and wants.
MY APPROACH
I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you can show up as your full self. I'll work collaboratively with you so you can expect the therapy to be personalized to your goals, learning style and interests. I tend to provide a balance of both the more intellectual processing, problem solving and skill building with somatic (body-based) work. I like to incorporate mindfulness, parts work and grounding practices to support you in honoring your emotions and having embodied experiences of what safety, connection, and regulation feel like in your nervous system.
I tend to pull from interventions such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Narrative Therapy, Trauma-focused therapy, Sex Therapy and Play Therapy.
When working with couples and partners, we’ll focus on communication, identifying current relational patterns, and bringing forward the underlying fears, needs, expectations, and desires that often go unspoken. My goal is to help you build a relationship style that reflects your authentic values rather than other people’s scripts or assumptions.
For working with kids, I like to bring in play therapy utilizing toys, games, art, movement and storytelling to help build connection and explore emotions in an approachable and age appropriate manner. Whenever possible, I like to pull in interests that your kiddo already has and incorporate some mindfulness and grounding to help them feel embodied and increase regulation.
MY BACKGROUND
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working at a wide range of settings: community mental health, residential treatment, group practices (focused on DBT, somatic work and sex therapy), university health centers and trauma centers. In these settings I’ve supported children, teens, adults, and families; survivors of sexual violence; individuals exploring gender and sexuality; people living with chronic pain; and those working through complex trauma, anxiety, depression, and relational wounds.
In addition to providing individual and couples therapy, I have also led mindfulness groups, expressive arts/movement groups, chronic pain recovery groups and DBT skills groups.
WHY I LOVE THIS WORK
Getting to witness clients rediscover themselves, trust their inner wisdom and feel more grounded in who they are is the real pleasure of doing this work. It brings me such joy to support others in the process of building a life that feels more aligned with their values and desires on their own terms.
I also love the creativity, silliness and laughter that bring a nice balance to the heaviness and the magic that comes when a new idea or practice really clicks. I feel very lucky to love the work that I do.
A BIT MORE ABOUT ME...
When I am not working, you can find me spending time outside, swimming, hiking and dancing. I also cherish time with friends and loved ones sharing meals, playing games and watching movies.
